Musikfest

The sounds of more than 300 musical performers from throughout the United States and around the world will fill the streets, parks and plazas of historic downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania during Musikfest, the annual 10-day musical extravaganza that is set for Aug. 3-12 this year.

Musikfest features more than 500 musical performances on 13 indoor and outdoor stages spread throughout center-city Bethlehem. Whether you enjoy classic rock or classical music, rap or reggae, you will find it at the festival. In addition, the event, which attracts more than one million people annually, features a wide variety of food, fun children’s activities, visual arts and crafts and a closing-night fireworks spectacular.

Mr. John has had the pleasure of serving this amazing event for a number of years now.  The scope of the project includes the placement of over 150 Standard restrooms as well as a number of upscale restrooms, ADA compliant units, sinks, restroom trailers, holding tanks, wastewater pumping / disposal and valets.   Loading in and placement of the equipment takes place a week in advance under the guidance of experienced Project and Account Managers.  Daily servicing of the units during the event is necessary to accommodate the large number of visitors.

The theme of this year’s festival is “One World, Many Rhythms,” which is designed to showcase how music is the universal language that transcends cultures and unites the various people of the world. To highlight the theme, the festival will feature acts from Africa, Europe, Latin America and other parts of the globe.

“One of the primary thrusts will be to follow the migration and transformation of rhythm from Africa through Latin America to the United States,” says Patrick Brogan, the festival’s Director of Performing Arts.

While Musikfest is known for its diversity of musical styles, this year’s lineup is shaping up to be the most eclectic ever, with acts ranging from hard rock legends Deep Purple and Grammy Award winning rapper Ludacris, to British songstress Petula Clark, country stars Big and Rich and Kusum Gboo, a Pan African dance troupe from Ghana.

Musikfest hours are 5-11 p.m. Aug. 3 and noon-11 p.m. Aug. 4-12. The festival, which is celebrating its 24th year, is presented by the Bethlehem-based, nonprofit arts organization ArtsQuest. More than 2,000 volunteers and 160 local and regional businesses come together to help make the event possible each year.
