The Inside Poop
Dirty, Smelly ThingsMention a portable toilet and most people will cringe. For the most part, we have all experienced those, smelly, dirty, overflowing things before. Chances are you have had the misfortune to be in a situation where it was necessary to use one at a concert, park, fair or other event. Amidst your disgust, you probably thought “ugh, don’t they ever clean these things?”
It is a common misconception that the portable restroom provider is to blame for inadequate and/or unclean restroom facilities. The truth is however, the number of toilets as well as the cleaning schedule is the responsibility of the customer. Each time we are asked to service a restroom adds to the cost of the rental. Also, the number of toilets for an event or site is the customer’s choice. Inadequate numbers of toilets for the number of users not only causes long lines at events, it also causes overuse and consequently, a dirty, smelly toilet.
It is very common for people to think that restrooms are not very important. Most of the budget goes to the fun things, the things that make an event memorable. Who cares about the porta potties, right?
Wrong. People care about the porta potties. Whether you want to think about it or not, we all need to use them. They are necessary and people will remember if there aren’t enough or if they are not maintained properly. The event will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.
While it’s true that choosing facilities for an event is not an exact science, we can help in planning for an adequate number of facilities. Check out our unit selection chart, which was developed by the Portable Sanitation Association International.
